Hi, it's me, jazzen jake
I have been playing the alto saxaphone now just for about 4 years and i recently just picked up on playing the barri sax. Though, I was wondering, would it be a wisae decision for me to start playing the tenor. I think i would be able to play good with it because i have a lot of air to play the barri sax. What are your thoughts on this.

the question isnt if you should play its if you want to play. try it if you like stick with it. i play all saxaphones. maybe not good but i play them all i play tenor the most. tenor is the main jazz sax. i enjoy it the best. Hope this helps.
musically yours,
Jon k

RE: Jon you are a very unwise man...for one u spelled saxophones 'saxaphones' you obviously are uneducated. Second the main jazz saxOPHONE is the alto sax. So please read up on things before you dish out incorrect information.
RE: jazzen jake...well you need to decide first what type of music you like to play. You either need to play just tenor or play both the alto and bari. I say this because the alto and bari are both Eflat, while the tenor is a bflat instrument. But I reccomend sticking with alto. It has a large variety of sounds ranging from a high to low pitch which balances it. Alto, hands down, is the best saxophone.

There is no "best" sax. The ranges of the instruments are all proportionate and equal so i have to disagree with Craig. In response to Jazzen Jake, if you can already play the bari the tenor shouldn't be that hard to get used to. I'd go for it as it would open up a different repoitoire (oo butchered that word), especially in jazz. Have fun.

Well, I think you should play the soprano sax. It's way cooler than the tenor. I'm an alto player and everyone knows the Alto is the coolest saxophone. Just look at Craig he knows. But if ur trying to decide to pick another saxophone to play definately pick up the Soprano.
