hey jon, it's me, jazzen jake,
personally, i like yamaha models the best. I had to rent one for my middle school band and it sounded great to me. I also think you can greatly depend on them too. For a metal jazz band mouth piece i'am not sure on. Though, you could probably find some good ones in a catalog at a music store or something. That's the best I can think of. Hope i helped:)

hmm, if memory serves me, an Otto Link is a good brand. i haven't played tenor for a while, so my memory about that is fuzzy. a good pro model of tenor? that could be hard to narrow down, your best bet is to go to your local music dealer and see what they have. i know Selmer have a very very good reputation for saxophones, but it's also what you prefer playing. i know people who don't like playing a Selmer, and prefer a Yamaha. see what you can play, because theres a chance that a pro model hasn't been taken care of, and doesn't sound the way you'd like it. hope this helps.

I have the best luck with the Jupiter Artist tenor sax, but you should get to a shop where they let you try out instruments before you buy. NEVER buy an instrument without test playing it first.

i don't play tenor but as for the metal mouthpiece i am going to assume that you'll be playing in a jazz ensemble and if so i don't reccomend it unless allthe other saxes have one. we have a guy in our band a couple years ago that had one and it didn't sound right b/c no one else had one so he was made to switch over to a regular jazz mouthpiece like the rest of us. hope this helps

no if the student was playing jazz righjt it just makes the sounmd more rich. your director shouldnt have mde him switch. i have been playting a jazz mouthpiece for atleast 2 years in my jazz ensemble and it makes the sound much more full and rich. it wont matter if the rest of the saxes have it anyways. they have the same sound they just have to work harder to achieve it.

Jupiter then Yahmaha, Selmer. With that amount of money I think you would like to have what i want. A german nickel plated acid bath treated pearl keyed bad a-- sax. Right I have only found two of these and they were about 3500 dollars each.
