What register does the clarinet play in most the time? I'm guessing clarion but someone told me that clarinets play the chalemeau register most the of the time.

Although the most distinctive sound of the clarinet is the low chalumeau register, most music is written in the clarino (clarion, clarinet) register.
In Mozart's day, the clarino register was reliable and in tune, while the chalumeau didn't have a great tone, so his clarinet concerto is mostly written in the clarino register, with occasional runs and arpeggios lower down. This set the standard for later works, although the modern clarinet has no problems in the lower notes.

If you are playing in a band, it matters what part you play. First part plays the highest register, second plays middle(throat tones) register, and the third/fourth plays the lowest bass parts. But this is not for every piece of music....sometimes 1st can play really low while the rest are playing throat tones. But a clarinet on its own plays all over.
