i play the clarinet. i learned to play the flute and are now very good. i recently picked up the piccolo and was playing that. The piccolo wasn’t in as good shape as it could have been so I usually didn’t play low notes. One day I was stopped playing the piccolo and decided to pick ol’ faithful, the flute… but I could barely play. I was breathy and playing high while trying to play low notes and vice versa. That day I spent like four hours nursing myself back onto the flute before I was playing like before. I haven’t really picked up the piccolo since. I wanted to know what I could do about the switching between piccolo and flute thing. One site told me to always start practicing on flute and then when you begin with the piccolo, to play scales first before really playing and to ALWAYS start scales low.

The embouchures are quite similar, but still different on both instruments. You need to develop the flexibility in your embouchure to play on both. Practise both instruments in the same practice session or within one day of each other. That's the only way to learn to play both.

Yeah, I kinda know what you mean. I played flute for like, 4 years, this is my first year on pic. At first pic was really weird for me because it was so small and different but then I got used to it. Then, I was bored one day and got my good ol' flute back out, and I had the range of a 5th grader! And it seemed so BIG!
Anyway, to play the flute, just relax more. Once you get used to playing the flute again, you'll find the pic has made you a better flute player!
