what do the numbers and letters of clarinets mean? like an R13 clarinet. what does the 'R' and the 13 mean?

a individual clarinet manufacturer makes different models of clarinets, some are student instruments, some are intermediate and some are professional. Then different numbers and letters are asigned to each model. R13 is a professional model of Buffet and B12 is a popular student model.

They really have no inherent meaning. It is whatever the manufacturer assigns it to be.
