 switching saxes

My music has decided that i will play an alto instead of a tenor sax. Is there any thing i should know before i agree to the switch ans do u have any tips etc? thanx

the fingering is all the same so that is a plus there. the alto usually gets the melody more then the tenor, so that is a good point. the alto has a smaller mouthpiece, so that you will need to have a tighter embouchure to produce the same quality of tone. and rememebr the alto is an Eb instrument, and the tenor is a Bb instrument. so when you tune, you will play a G on the alto(concert Bb). you should ask yourself if you want to play it or not. if you don't want to, then you could hate playing it and not practise and/or give it up as soon as band is over. hope this helps.
