 Clarinet history

I have acquired a Selmer Paris Series 9 clarinet. Is there anyone out there that could give me information on this model? I took it in for to be repadded and the repairman almost fainted...Said he couldn't believe the excellent condition it was in. Is this an old clarinet? The case looks nothing like any case I've ever seen.
