What is the difference between a b-foot and a c-foot on the flute?

One allows you to play down to b, the other down to c. So the b foot is longer and gives you one extra note at the bottom of the range of the flute, but it makes the flute heavier and harder to hold.

I guess I should have known that, it sounded so obvious. Anyway you helped a lot. I been using a c-foot flute, but I think I'm going to buy a b-foot intermediate now. Thanks for your help.

Not only does a b-foot can play one note lower, it also makes the flute more projecting, a lot of American Flutists use it. The c-foot however gives the player tonal flexibility which is much prefered by European Flutists.
