You can check out Noteworthy composer...(go to google and do a search for it). You can keep it free on your computer for about a month, then it deletes itself. It sucks, but it's free. If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive program to buy (short of $500 dollars for Sibelius, which is well worth it, but has a lot of features a High School student would never need to use), I suggest Finale's PrintMusic! 2002 software. It's around $60 if you order off of Woodwind/Brasswind (www.wwbw.com), and it has plenty of features to keep you happy. I use the program to transpose music for church band, and also to write music for my jazz combo. I even transposed the entire "Fiddler on The Roof" score from Cello to Tenor Sax using the program, and it was relatively painless. Any questions, let me know!
