As a flautist, let me introduce a professional flautist to you: James Galway.
James Galway is perhaps the most prominent professional fluatist in the modern sense of the word. For me, listening to his flute playing is such a pleasure, how he unveils the true marvels of the flute itself, and how he sentimentally convey emotions through his playing is truly amazing. His sheer level of techincality is beyond doubt, or an excellent level. And his flute playing is simply too fantastic for any flaws.
An extremely virtuous and versatile flautist, James Galway's tone is soul-lifting, and heavenly, with low notes rumbbling with intensity, with touch of exquisity, fine as silk, deluxe and absolutely pleasing to the ears. His high notes are crisp, clear, bright with ringing timbre qualities. His tonguing is accurate and precise, with his vibratos almost impossible the resist.
Such a fine fluatist, James Galway.
P.S. You can see many of his albums here: http://www.gracenote.com/music/search.html?f=artist&q=James+Galway
