what's that supposed to mean? both are melody instruments, so they both get their share. I don't this is a topic worth debating.

I play Clarinet. My sister plays flute (and calls herself a flautist - see an eariler topic). We both played in the same bands & orchestras in school. Unless a solo was written in order to explore the characteristics of a particular instrument, in large tutti passages, top clarinet and top flute were playing the same melody line, albeit in octaves. Where are you coming from? There is little to choose if you are seeking glory by always playing the top line. If you are trying to decide what instrument to learn by who has the best parts, thumping away with a bass instrument can be just as satisfying.
Dboe - don't be so arrogant. If you don't think this is a topic worth debating, don't participate. Someone probably thinks the same about your topics.

I was just curious it wasn't to help me choose an instrument!
