 Bye Bye Birdie

I have been 'recruited' at my high school this year to do Reed 3 for BBBirdie. What should I expect? Is there more tenor sax or clarinet? What is everyones opinion for it?

I just played this book a few weeks ago. As I recall its about equal parts clarinet and sax, maybe a little more sax. I remember the only thing that tripped me up was in the do-wop numbers I would play on sax a bunch of triplets in a row on say a low E, which was hard to do evenly and always have a good attack. But I am not a sax player, and also we had to play really quiet b/c the singers were not using microphones.

Theres also a misprint in Telephone Hour with some rests. If it sounds like you enter early ask how many bars of rest there should be.

thanks. In Telephone Hour-i listened to it yesterday-is the prominant sax part in reed 3 or reed 4 (bari sax)?

I think what you are talking about is the bari sax part.

Well, as an update I finished Bye Bye Birdie yesterday, and ended up covering clarinet, tenor sax, and flute/picc during the last week of rehearsals. It was all together a great show, but the key signatures were a killer

I have not actually played any instruments for this show. However, I was in the cast of it during my senior year in high school. It's a really fun show! Ahh, how I long for the classics!

It was the first show I ever played in, sophomore year in HS. And for many years after, I rarely played a tougher book. Key signatures galore!
