Teach yourself piano in 21 days?

Okay, I don't know if that counts as doubling, so bear with me.

I'm playing clarinet, but there are times of day where even ppp passages are considered inappropriate and untimely. We also have a (digital) piano, bought for the daughter...you get the idea. I could (at least) practice sight-reading and collaterally develop some piano skills.

Anyone here with a suggestion for an introductory ("crash course") book for adults who can already read sheet music and have other basic music skills?

Adult Piano Adventures, a comprehensive piano course by Nacy and Randall Faber (ISBN 1-56939-238-2). This is a fun method book that has you playing music very quickly albeit with simplified versions of hundreds of songs. They are arranged in a sequential path of increasingly interesting and challenging songs.

But I'd recommend an instructor for at least a month to steer you clear of some beginning pitfuls that are NOT intuitive.

Enjoy,

I've read somewhere that there is a theory that an adult cannot learn to play piano with the same facility and ease that one taught during the adolescent years quickly acquires. Something about imprinting certain patterns on the hind brain and other such physiological stuff like that.

For your sake, I hope that this theory is not true. As for me, I've given up on the 88 keyed beast, since everyone around me plays it at a level that seems like a thousand times better. Sigh...

Thank you all.

I'm well past my "best before" date, at least wrt learning. I'm just hoping to learn to squeeze some suitable chords and play as fast as I can type. And if I can learn to play the clarinet at the tender age of 41, I can learn to play piano two years later too...

I found some localized books for adults that may beneficial for other members of the family, should they ever feel the urge to challenge my squeaking. (ISBN 3795750822, got good critiques from other doublers)
