 Teething problems

I'm a long time alto sax player and have just started to learn clarinet.

I've got a new Yamaha 650 but I am not sure if this is hardware problem or a me problem. I could play up the first two registers without issue (obviously loving the second register) apart from the B/C over the register change. They are not playing at all well - it's very hit and miss whether they will even come out and it can feel like I am blowing against a wall.

I will take to have a tech look at it, but is this more likely to be me and my fingers or the clarinet?

I can take time placing my fingers correctly and it's no better (it is a bit easier starting above the notes and even coming down rapidly the notes are more likely to behave).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I may have just solved my own problem by reading on a different thread that there can be a tendency to overpress when you've come from the sax - lightening up my touch seems to have an immediate effect...
