Um...there's no oboe?? How can they film it without at least a prop oboe?
That's just wrong.

Actually, there is an oboe on the mantle in the background.
Great commercial, but I agree that Alex Klein was miscast as the "normal person." In the oboe community, at least, he's more of a demigod.
Cheers,
Drew

Allegedly a clarinet on the mantel (boo hoo) not an oboe.
Best,
john

Cooper, check your blog of November 13th. Somebody said he thought it was a clarinet. That must have been where I got the idea that this is what it was, i. e., a clarinet & not an oboe. I never looked at the Utube video. I've seen it enough times on TV.
Best,
john

It's still barely visible. [disdainful sniff] We demand a higher media profile for our instrument!
And, visually speaking, from the standpoint of composition, it should have been placed directly between the two guys, back there in front of the round window. But I suppose the director didn't want to make a definite statement, he wanted to be more oblique, like an "inside joke". But it's only an "inside joke" if people can spot it, and IMO it was *too* inconspicuous. Even after knowing it was there, I had to pause the video and then scrutinize the frame closely, like with one of those "spot the hidden object" games.

Define "subtle hint" or "easter egg".

Well, I don't think easter eggs are playing fair, either, because you need Secret Inside Information to access them, so there.

?
I'm terrible at puzzles to begin with, but I can't even figure out what you're supposed to do on that one. I tried typing "cat" in the box, and hitting Enter, and nothing happens. So, huh?

... golly gee whiz, we sure do need comic relief from all the crazy puzzles OBOE gives us, that joker beside the 'Ordinary Guy' sure is a HooT
at the risk here of commercially advertising, really good oboe playing examples are increasing exponentially on youtube, it's a real treat to listen to them, but just be alert for the other jokers ...

Quote:
lets face facts most people dont even know what an Oboe is...I am always astounded when people ask "Whats an Oboe ?"
I always tell people, "Like a clarinet--but skinnier", which seems to work well. At least it enables the conversation to move along, as the other person will generally nod knowledgeably, "Ah, of course..." even if they don't have the faintest idea what I'm talking about.

No you don't. Unless you're actually pampering that at-the-verge-of-being-extinct thing.
Think Tanita Tikaram's "Twist In My Sobriety". Go out more often. Be heard.

How many of you have investigated the other "real people" in those ads to see if they're "average persons".
No one watching those ads cares about the "real people"...
Time to get a "real life".

Oh, please.
People are just exchanging about how excited they are regarding the Alex Klein ad. Isn't that what a forum is all about, exchanging?
