Here's a photo of an S40c with the auto 8ve mechanism I designed:

(there has been a slight modification since, so the venting of the 8ve keys has been reduced and both the pillars at the top are at the same level)

Compare it to the standard auto 8ve mechanism found on the majority of oboes (this photo of an XL) and you'll see how simple it is (but performs exactly the same function):
