My lessons don't start for another three weeks, otherwise I would have asked my teacher to have a blow to see whether there was really a problem or not.

You're probably right about me not being used to the hiss - I'm not sure that it is really very audible to anyone but me. It is definitely playing differently because the A is now in tune whereas before the service it was sharp.
