Hi, I don't know what site you were looking at the M2 on, but if you haven't seen the Marigaux site yet its www.marigaux.com you can view it either in french or english by clicking on the flag on the right side of the page near the top.
Those oboes are pretty different form what everyone is used to and from the reading and research I've done on them, the purpose of having the short top joint is to help prevent excessive cracking. Another reason was to eliminate the seperation between the G# and F# keys to better position the two to help both hand position and intonation. I have yet to try one out and am actually dying to get my hands on one, but new oboes are pretty expensive these days. I own a Marigaux 901 which is the base model of the professional oboes that Marigaux offers. If you haven't tried one of these before, when you are getting ready to finally purchase a new oboe I would recomend trying one of these oboes out. I had the choice of a Loree and a Marigaux and after trying the two I totally fell in love with the Marigaux. But thats all personal preference of course.
