I'll be shocked when someone who is not a music major gets one of those "becoming rarer every day" scholarships for performance.
My son graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy majoring in clarinet some years back. He was accepted at almost every conservatory and music school he applied for (the exception was Curtis, and they only accepted a grad student that year in clarinet). Only 2 of the institutions offered any scholarship help at all, and he attended one of those.
