 Materials used for oboes
Author: rottenburgher

I was just curious....other than boxwood, what other materials were commonly used for Baroque oboes?

I have seen a beautiful ivory Baroque oboe and some of other types of wood, but was wondering how many of these exist.

Was ivory common for woodwinds? Is it a good material for oboes? If so, what makes it better or different?

Is it more or less prone to cracking?

Thanks in advance for your input.
