I third the Ewazen -- great piece of music and well crafted.

I might also suggest perhaps doing the Bach d'amore but on oboe. The Urtext edition comes with both a d'amore part and an oboe part. With the marvel of Bach, you cannot go wrong to perform it on oboe OR oboe d'amore.

I also like the idea of the Martinu or the Goosens. You might also consider one of the two concertos by Hidas. They are beautiful and well crafted and are very audience friendly, but at the same time well challenging, both technically and musically, for the oboist. Trevor at Trevco can help you locate the parts. They are not rental only that I know of.
