I played the tenor sax in HS marching band, very easy double for oboe. Also played bari (fun) in jazz band. But when I got to college I had to use a very old (and NASTY) school instrument...and then they asked for tuba carriers. I thought the tuba section (actually sousaphones) looked really fun, and I actually learned to play, not just haul it around. The embouchure was so big it didn't really bother my oboe playing, in fact it was great to focus on getting the air going! We are so used to having too much air, it was a real experience to have no real resistance. I played for three of my 4 college years, then I was doing my senior recital and decided I really couldn't play in the marching band that last year. (I was an oboe major and went on to get an oboe masters). I still go back most years for homecoming and play with the alumni marching band - my once a year tuba gig! Playing a brass instrument with a tighter embouchure (like tpt or horn) would probably not be a great idea if you'll be playing a fair amount.
Another thing to consider is doubling; if you had flute or clarinet chops you have a better chance of pit playing if that is something you are interested in. Best of luck with your doubling career.
