The one time I oiled my bore was the last time. I used almond oil on my new AK back in college, and BOOM! Whatya know? The next day appeared THREE new cracks! I sent it back to RDG, and they explained that when you put oil in the bore of a horn, it expands, but the outside of the instrument can't handle the extra space, so it cracks. Quite common from what I've heard.
I've also heard what Covey mentioned, that the oil doesn't go very far in the wood. Therefore, I just assumed it was never worth it.
