Stevens Hewett has a line in his method book related to tongueing where he asks "how does a wine taster demonstrate his skill, by sticking out his tongue" ? ( I ,ay paraphrase slightly...)
Still, good descriptions from different players concerning how they conceive of their act of tonueing would be of interest. Basic orientation of reed to tongue, legato Vs. staccatto, double and triple tongue techniques.
For example, recently I moved the contact portion of my tongue to the right side and it touches the left lower blade of the reed. I am getting much more controlled articulation in the lower range as a result. It works for legato and marcato so far. And better for softer starts on low tones.
I spent a lot of time getting into double and tripple tongueing years ago and still have practice drills for those when the repertoire demands. I only go about 120 -126 with 16ths at the quarter, so felt self-conscious about that.
Funny though, with this newer side of the tongue thing starting to happen, I seem to go faster with the single tongue, but it is a little unreliable at this point.
I would enjoy reading what others do and contemplate along these lines.
