I am now an official fan of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe's fine recordings made with Harnoncourt. I realised Douglas Boyd appears in most of the records, and he really has a very distinctive sound, though sometimes that swell can get a bit annoying, i started getting curious, what oboe does he play on?

Marigaux?!?!?!?!?
But I thought ALL oboists play Lorees - so whats the point of playing on anything else? I don't know how other companies compete!

Doug doesn't play the oboe much any more, he tells me! But, yes, he did play a Marigaux (horray!)

I don't know any Marigaux cor anglais owners/players apart from myself - most cor players or owners I know of play Loree or Howarth, though Geoffrey Browne played a Malerne before getting a Howarth S5.
But my Marigaux 930 cor is hard to better (I don't know how other companies compete!), though the XL cor is a beaut.
