Hello Again!!!
I finally got to enroll in oboe lessons at my university, and had my first lesson!!! I am soo excited!!! The instructor is amazing!!!
He touched on a few points with me that I have a few questions about. I asked him about reed placement, and he said that his past instructor (Elaine Douvas) played with the reed off center, as does he. What does this do, and how does it affect the sound (I am not at the point where there is any noticeable sound/feel difference in my playing either way).
Also he had me try to roll my lips in and out which he said was a great way to build up my embouchure. How often do you all think this should be done???
I also asked him about tongue position when playing and where to articulate on the reed. He said to tongue to the side of the reed beacuse that makes it last longer. However he wasn't sure about tongue position, so do you guys have any advice for me concerning tongue position??? I am not sure how critical it is to oboe technique (with the clarinet I know tongue position is a MAJOR factor in how well you play/sound).
Thanks!!!
Clayton
