Anyone got any experiences of air travel in the UK currently? Specifically, I'm flying from London to Belfast for a concert at the end of next week - and there's no way I'm prepared to check my babies into hold baggage!
My case is a double oboe/cor BAM trekking, and it's right on the edge of the maximum size permitted now [a couple of cm over but no more] so I'm hopeful I can get that on; but have people been pulled up for having cor anglais crooks, etc in their cases - after all they're very offensive weapons!
Any experiences or advice very gratefully received.

I know for a fact that Gordon Hunt travelled to Singapore from London recently with his oboe and reeds checked in hold baggage.
He still performed beautifully on the Strauss last night.
The best way to find out is to call the airport and ask. I heard that the situation is much better now though but please check!

Hi,
Check with your air company to be really sure. A friend of mine went to Europe last week with a BAM trekking double clarinet case and was allowed to bring it as a carry-on bag, but could'nt bring anything else.
Good luck!

I got lucky; in London Heathrow they use these little wooden frame things to assess the size of carry on baggage. Upon entering security I was asked to put my bag in - being a smidgen [no more!] too long it wouldn't quite go but the friendly security guy said to me "that bag was about to go in there sir, wasn't it?", to which I rapidly nodded assent!
Glad to see there's a bit of common sense still being applied at least.
Thanks to all for your comments!
