A good book, if your library has it: "David Ledet, Oboe Reed Styles" You'll discover that there are actually a huge variety of styles. It has photos of about a few dozen oboists' reeds.
Main divisions:
Long Scrape: American. The reed is scraped 3/4 of the way, with a thin tip, a thicker heart, and then a moderately thin back. Less bark remains.
Short scrape: European. All the traditional european styles are scraped from halfway (more or less) on the reed. They have essentially one continuous slope (with slight alterations and curvatures on the edges of the "tip" area) until that halfway point. The French style typically has a very thin tip, and a steeper gradient up to the bark - a thicker "heart" area. The dutch style (german is actually a hybrid style) has a thicker tip, but a thinner heart area. Short scrape reeds are also longer: usually 72mm finished length. More bark remains.
