I am getting ready to do an honor band for the summer, and the piece we are playing is Vincent Persichetti's Symphony No. 6. The first, second, and third movements are a joy to play, but the fourth one is making me go almost completely insane. The reason: those bizarre upper register slurs. Well, they might not be so bizarre to a professional oboist, but they are to me. I'm posting to request advice for fingering of the notes that might help for a smoother slur, yet still remain in tune. The rhythm is in cut time and it goes... quarter rest, eighth note, eigth note, quarter note, quarter note, quarter note. The pitches are as follows... C, G, C, D, E. Now, mind, you, that is all in the upper octave. It isn't 123-12 and octave key E, it is the one above that. If it can help you find a good fingering, my oboe DOES have a third octave key.
