Yes, but it can dramatically alter the tuning and tone of the reed. It will probably come out with more a more buzzing tone quality, and you'll have to re-scrape the tip of the reed to improve the vibration. All in all, it's not a great idea. It's a lot easier to adjust a hard reed to be softer than to get a soft reed to be harder.
