If i knew how to do it profficiently and safely on performances i would definitely always use it as i do not have a very good and fast single tongue technique at my expense. Many pieces like the excerpt from La Scala di Seta or the 2nd movement of the Nielsen Fantasy requires double tongue. Triple tongue is necessary in many advant garde orchestral pieces of Ravel and such. Discussed on the methods on learning it before on this board, but still i have trouble applying it into playing, i guess there is no substitution to slow and careful practise to achieve the use of it.
