Detrimental in respect to the tone that a trained primary flutist is accustomed to.
If one never studied the flute privately or the flute is a double, they would never know the loss.
You can devlop an absolutely fabulous tone and sound great, but I don't believe a doubler can ever attain the tone capability which a dedicated flutist can without sacrifice of the quality of the doubles (or unless one has a lot of time dedicated to practice).
Spend a couple of weeks in dedication to the flute practicing for at least 2 hours of etudes (eg Anderson). Then spend 3 days with the oboe and neglect the flute. That well developed flute tone from dedicated study is dead.
But the tone you'll have may be well and good for most even to casual flutists, but not to educated professionals dedicated to the flute that will chastise you for doubling without you having to bring up the subject in lessons.
