Quite a few makers will make oboes in alternative woods, such as "violet wood" or kingwood, cocobolo, rosewood, and other dense tropical woods. Gold-plating of keys is also offered by many manufacturers. I am always a bit skeptical of these instruments, though I probably shouldn't be. But I'm worried that my judgment is being manipulated by the visual when, for a musical instrument, I think it should be focused on the aural. But yes, they can be pretty.
