Hey Clarence,

First, soak the reed in warm to hot (not scalding hot) water for about 3-5 minutes. Test it periodically while soaking it. If this does not work, then try gently squeezing near the sides of the tip to open it a little. If this does not work, be careful but squeeze the sides closer to the thread of the reed to open it up. If neither of these things work, then the reed itself needs to be scraped more to loosen it up.
