For many of you who would i'm sure have purchased a cd of oboe music on the Naxos label over the past 15 or so years, i'm sure that the bulk of those were recorded by one Anthony Camden. It is with great sadness that we hear of his passing on the Australasian Double Reeds Society Website.
I was lucky enough to have a lesson from him in 2003 where he stressed the importance of Gillet studies, orchestral excerpts and the Mozart Oboe concerto.
He remains the most prolific recorded oboist and many i'm sure will too be saddened by the news. For decades he taught in the UK (whilst being principal oboe in LSO), later coming to Brisbane, Australia in the early 90's to be dean of the Brisbane Con.
He continued touring and giving masterclasses until late 2003, whilst he held his position (Head of Music Department) at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.
