I use the Howarth silk pullthrough with a tail which does the whole instrument from bell to reed socket in one go whilst assembled.

The tail is there so you can pull it back if you feel any resistance or if the cord has got a knot in it. They also work well on cors and d'amores too. I'm sure they can post them overseas if you ask, or have someone in the UK buy them and post them to you as they're only £10.50 each.

To maintain the width, don't just screw it up and bung it in your case on top of your oboe or in the case cover pocket like so many people do as it won't be effective at mopping out the lower joint.

What I do is fold it up on itself (in half and half again and half again), then fold the folded up pullthrough in half and wrap the cords around it to make it into a small bundle and store it in the bell.

Then it's easy to unravel it when you need to use it and it won't be all scrunched up. Just make sure the cords aren't knotted and the pullthrough itself is fully unfurled and not folded on itself which will get stuck fast in the top joint.

And wash them periodically so they don't get all skanky - wash in lukewarm
water with a single drop of fabric detergent as they're silk, then wring them out or blot them to remove as much of the water from them and hang them up to fully air dry.
