Does anyone have any opinion about the Prestini oboes available from Prestini USA? They have for example a synthetic model, and a grenadilla “Loree” model. These are not prestini system oboes. Rather they are standard conservatory models made by a Swiss company called Prestini.
Jim Mason sells them and has nice things to say about them. The price is right so I’m curious.
Thanks!

Makes sense. I was wondering if they were Chinese. I wonder if they are straight up stencil instruments, completely manufactured in China, or if they finish the bore or something in Switzerland. The marketing material suggests the former. But it’s not clear.

Marketing spiel always has to be taken with a massive pinch of salt. Prestini as an instrument maker was an Italian company whose oboes are often seen on eBay in various guises - you'll often see 'La Margue' mentioned on here and they're Prestini-made oboes.
The majority of new oboes sold by a company that also sells other woodwinds under their same house brand name that isn't a recognised and reputable maker's name is most likely a Chinese instrument.

Right. To clarify, even their marketing material implies to me that all they do is test and do a basic adjustment nothing more. So yeah, it seems like a Chinese instrument.
