I just listened to both a quite old and a pretty new recording of Heinz Holliger on youtube yesterday.....and like his sound better than the typical American sound, which to me lacks something. It's too un-oboe; can't really explain it. So likely he plays on Euro scrape reeds, and I have wondered what instrument he played / plays. That is how I would have liked to sound.
