Well i have been having quite a bit of 'fast tiring cheeks' problem on the first few months of playing. But that has been solved now.
There might be a few things causing that, maybe a few symptoms will explain that.
1. does he bite on the reed? i.e. applying to much pressure on the reed?
2. does the reed go into his mouth more n more as he plays for a longer period ?
the above might tell that he has trouble getting a good embouchure. Aside from that he might even be holding the oboe wrongly. Did he play another instrument like that clarinet before switching to oboe? That might be a concern. Correct me if i'm wrong n hope this helps.
