I would like a decent used oboe. I won't ever play professionally, but I want to play with serious community bands and the like. I live in Cleveland (John Mack territory) and everyone says Loree.
I have very small hands. Would like to have it easier to play those left Eb, left F fingerings!
Suggestions before I start seriously looking?

I'll recommend either Howarth (any model) or a Marigaux 901.
Just because everyone plays Loree, doesn't mean everyone has to play Loree. Find the one you like as it's you who'll be playing it and not them, whoever they are.

The only way to find out how the left keys fit your hand is to try various models out. The Oboe Fairy has many different brands of used oboes available and will send you four of them for you to try.

Since you are a beginner, you are playing on softer reeds that are usually brighter in sound. Therefore, I recommend an instrument with a darker sound, such as Yamaha or Howarth. French instruments tend to have a brighter sound than many others, so Loree might not be for you.
A 20-year-old Loree in good condition will cost you around $5,000. For that same price, there are quite a few other instruments you can buy that are newer. I recommend that you ask Hannah for advice and tell her your price target.

I have the same problem; I don't know how small your hands are, but I have difficulty reaching a Loree. I have a Rigoutat Expression. I've heard that Laubin are also good for smaller hands. But you have to try before you buy. Hannah's oboes is a good place to start.
