Yeah, for staple length, it's easy enough to measure on the non-pointy side or just hold it the RH way. It gets more annoying while measuring with cane before it's been tied on or in the process of being tied on. Hand gymnastics. Ah well, c'est la vie. Maybe I should make friends with a machinist.
