Leon Goossens & Edwin Roxburgh OBOE (Yehudi Menuhin Music Guides) comes to mind straight away and is a handy paperback book for general reference. For a good fingering guide set of charts for all woodwind key in www.wfg.woodwind.org. As for the 3rd Octave key , I've alway regarding that little feature as something for the professionals. I've personally had no need for it as I've never had any desire to go higher than top F natural. I've also heard that it is a bit of a nuisance to keep in adjustment.
