I do not know who Robert Thibaud was.
"Thibaud" oboes, oboes d'amore, and English horns were "stencil" instruments,
some likely made by Kreul, some by Bulgheroni, and by possibly other makers as well. I do not know whether "Thibaud" instruments were "fettled"(finished) by Thibaud in Paris, or whether all of the instruments were factory finished.
I bought a "Thibaud" oboe some years ago, "as is," without possibly of trial. Likely Bulgheroni "Artist" model The instrument was beautiful to behold, and in new condition. The bore/tone hole sizing/under-cutting had never been finished! I sent the oboe to Tom Hiniker to be finished. Tom produced a major pile of wood chips in the process of reaming the oboe, resizing and undercutting the tone holes. After Tom's fettling efforts, the oboe played beautifully. Tom also took a "Thibaud" oboe d'amore (Bulgheroni) that was also unfinished. Tom drilled out both the upper joint and the lower joint way oversize, then installed wooden sleeve liners in both joints . Then Tom drilled all of the tone holes, moved the position of some tone holes, and accomplished the tone hole undercutting. The instrument was exquisite when Tom had completed the re-engineering...
