If you fill the crook with cerrobend that will support it while bending it to shape. Cerrobend alloy is molten in boiling water and solid at room temperature, so relatively easy to work with compared to molten pitch or lead (which requires a lot of heat) or frozen soap solution (using liquid nitrogen).
