I had a go on a W&W ring key dual system cor today (Howarth S3 spec) and was really surprised by it considering I've only ever encountered their oboes before and don't particularly rate them. But this cor is definitely something that their oboes aren't.
I have no idea the numbers of cors they made or how long they made them for - I've only seen them listed in John Myatt's catalogues in the past but nowhere else so they are rare beasts. I have heard of one other that was being played professionally but that's it. But what was nice about this one is that it's dual system instead of pure thumbplate, so that made it straightforward for me to play.
The oboes are still being made in the form of K.Ge (previously Armstrong-Ward - I do hope the build quality is better than the old W&W ones), but no cors in the lineup.
