Hi everyone,
I have been absent from the board for a few weeks, mostly because we will be welcoming a new baby to our family in less than six months! Nausea and exhaustion has prevented me from playing to my full capacity for a couple of months now, and my reed collection is looking well worn as I don't have the energy to sit down and scrape.
My husband has already (jokingly) decided he's going to book an oboist, bassoonist, horn player and violist for the birth to serenade the new bub and make sure they innately choose an instrument they might actually get gigs on, rather than the flute and clarinet we respectively started on. :P
Now that nausea has mostly subsided, I am starting to have trouble with lung capacity, obviously baby thinks it needs the space more than I do. If anyone has had experience with pregnant colleagues/students and has any advice for me on how to get around the feeling of blowing against a brick wall whilst playing, I'm all ears.
