I studied with a Caldwell student (accomplished professional) while I was in high school. He played a Caldwell model, and his reeds were rather long (71 mm finished) and narrow (RDG -1), and very "blendy" with regard to scrape. I had quite an adjustment to make when I began studies with Mack and Sorton, with shorter, wider, more defined reeds. I find that reeds are always more about the player than the instrument.
