Dear boys & girls,
Hopefully you've noticed that the forum is less unstable now - the website was migrated to a new server & now I can control all aspects of it. While keeping it at a controlled ISP was easier for my maintenance for a few years, we saw what happens when they decide to do things that, while good for them and many of their customers, are detrimental to us.
What I haven't migrated yet are the database and search services. They're running on a server controlled by me, but they're geographically and "internet hop" distant. I'm going to be moving them sometime in the next 72 hours; it's 90% ready, just a few things left to do, then production testing. The database server will be about the same power, but it will be literally in the same building as the web server and it won't be necessary to take a hop through the internet for the forum to access it - it has a dedicated high-speed connection that stays in the building.
What that means to you is faster return after you post and slightly faster searches. In theory, anyway ...
So ... you may find that the "Forum is undergoing maintenance" page popping up occasionally during the next few days. Nothing's wrong, we're just moving pieces around.
