Going from clarinet to oboe I learned a SLEW of problems that can be encountered. Learned that just "any old reed" won't cut it. Learned that oboe reeds cost many times more than clarinet ones. Learned the weather makes a huge difference in how the instrument sounds. But I LOVE playing the oboe now - Glad I picked it up.
