That's funny coming from the man who played on the same instrument pretty much his entire career. That being said, it sounds just like him.

Going from clarinet to oboe I learned a SLEW of problems that can be encountered. Learned that just "any old reed" won't cut it. Learned that oboe reeds cost many times more than clarinet ones. Learned the weather makes a huge difference in how the instrument sounds. But I LOVE playing the oboe now - Glad I picked it up.

Drew- The corollary to your expression may be:
"Never discount an option SIMPLY because it looks easy..."

I would agree with you, however, I do believe you have described the contrary or counter argument.
The corollary may be: "Good things come to those who wait."
corollary [kəˈrɒlərɪ]
n pl -laries
1. (Philosophy / Logic) a proposition that follows directly from the proof of another proposition
2. an obvious deduction
3. a natural consequence or result
adj
consequent or resultant

I think there may be a little confusion here. Does he mean changing from one's current oboe to a different oboe or from changing or adding the clarinet? Regards.
